My last few forum characters were, I think...
<ul type="disc]
Hive-mind composed of pugs wearing tuxedoes <Pugglestone, Pugglemore, Pugglario, etc.>

Sinister extradimensional 'Agency' that creates avatars at need <The Agency>

Brain-in-a-jar military robot that looks like a water heater <Tin Can XXIII>

Politically inclined regency frankenstein/mutant/etc.

Hideous, shy, retiring tentacle monster <Chervil>

I tend to have a pretty 'go weird or go home' policy, character-wise.
I think honestly my writing/characterization suffers for it, because they're mostly novelties.
But I don't think there's any shame in playing to your strengths (well, there's some, because I'm awful, but still).
EDIT:
Tinny has reminded me of two I forgot:
<ul type="disc]
Girl who brings things to life via strong emotions (and has a graveyard of murdered vibrators)

Jean-Jacques Montgolfier, inadvertently miniaturized aeronaut.

To give you some insight into the character of your benevolent dictator, that last is her favorite character I have played, despite his appearing in exactly zero posts. It is strictly a joke I made about the stupidest character I could possibly make, and then did a funny voice that is approximately similar to someone doing a fake french accent after sucking helium.
"Oh nooooo, I have been blown of courze!" etc. etc.
That is her favorite. That one.
