If the bride to be was at all bothered by the closeness of the relative stranger she didn’t show it. Nor did she seem put off by his not so subtle flirtations. “I’ll have to show you some time,” she replied, without missing a beat. She liked watching the almost bashful way he looked down at his boots or rubbed the back of his neck. Whenever he looked back up their eyes locked.
“That sounds delightful.” Maeve was doing her best to carry the conversation with Ishara, because Julianna was clearly having a different one. It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy talking with her, it’s just that she felt her friend owed a little more attention to the situation than she was giving. “Doesn’t that sound fun, Jules?” Her tone was somewhat firm as she turned to the other woman. The blonde was alarmed at the lack of distance between Julianna and Owen.
Maeve was asking for confirmation on something and Ishara was asking her if she wanted to look at photos and pamphlets and if she were being completely honest: she didn’t. Once again, she hummed a vague affirmation, but she didn’t look away from Owen until he moved to leave at Ishara’s instructions. Her eyes tracked his departure, before settling back on Maeve who looked like she was glaring at her.
Julianna oblivious to the wildly inappropriate nature of her interaction with the rancher, blinked slowly back at her. She abandoned her camera and her drink on the counter she had been leaning on and moved to join Maeve and pour over the binder.
Maeve exhaled sharply through her nose and propped open the binder so they both could look at it. She would wait until later to interrogate the smaller woman on her behavior. “Do you see anything you like?” She prompted, when flipping a few pages had done nothing to rouse Julianna’s enthusiasm.
“Isn’t what Jean likes more important,” she muttered. “We just got here,” Julianna sighed. “I’m kind of tired. Do we have to do this now?”
“This is what we’re here for.”
“You’re the wedding planner.” Julianna’s modulated tone was nearing a whine, like a toddler in need of a nap.
“Let’s just get some ideas, and I’ll handle the rest, okay?”
Julianna nodded her acquiescence to the compromise, but her focus didn’t stay on the book for long. Her sights drifted to the window above the kitchen sink.

I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you.
