It was odd to think she'd be staying with a family of complete strangers. Well. With Julianna and her husband. Cain seemed an adult; he probably had his own house or apartment somewhere, and his farewell had sounded pretty final. She idly thought maybe she should make sure to get his last name so she could mail him like a... thank you card, or something. She was wildly uncertain of what one was supposed to do in this situation, or even what this situation was.
"Veridian Lynxes," Bree repeated, rolling the first word around her mouth experimentally. She'd certainly never heard of anything like that. She'd heard of lynxes of course. Were they... actually a type of cat? That just turned into people, or... Lord, this seemed like a conversation absolutely fraught with ways to offend her newfound rescuers. They'd all taken her transformation, and the fact it was a curse, absolutely in stride, and she just... didn't want to say something utterly asinine.
She always wound up saying something asinine. Her inability to be a proper goddamn person was as much the fault of her tongue as her actual curse. "So, um, do you turn into... lynxes, then? Like... the cat? Hence, the, um..." she gestured vaguely towards Julianna's ears, but not her tail, lest it seem like she was refering her ass instead.
She flushed a bit at the confusion re: a hat. "Well, um, it's just, I need to, you know, cover them..." she muttered, ears flattening down sideways. Now that she was fully dressed, or at least closer to it, she felt the absence of something on her head all the keener. "I, um, I'm not sure how it is for you--" she barely managed to stop herself from saying 'you people' like a fucking moron this was exactly what she was worried about. "Guys," she managed instead. "But, um, you know, people could see my ears, and that's..." she trailed off uncertainly. Julianna did not appear to be picking up what she was putting down. "...Bad?"
There was a brief pause as Bree absorbed the fact she was speaking to a woman with uncovered ears, and had been treated by a doctor with uncovered ears, so was arguably in a general area used to the sight. Though she had no idea where, or why, or how.
"It's, uh, cultural?" she suggested weakly. "But I guess this is an emergency, so, um, it's fine, I'll just get one... as soon as I can." Even like a scarf or something. She thought they looked ridiculous on her, but they served their purpose in an emergency.
The thought of being around anyone, but especially the seemingly-human and definitely animal-ear-less Owen, with her ears out like this was borderline mortifying. But she really didn't want to be anymore of an inconvenience than she already had been. Especially with the morphine almost completely out her system. She was very sharply aware that her ribs were very much not right, and her whole right side felt like she'd lost a fight with a truck from Mad Max. She had a strong urge to go home, hide, and metaphorically lick her wounds. But it seemed like the closest to that she'd be getting would be going to Julianna's home instead, so she sort of just wanted to be there already. At least there would be slightly more private.
