“Kingston-Hart,” Julianna repeated, acknowledging the correction and committing the detail to memory. “Certainly.” Despite his words stating otherwise, she was still getting the impression that he was not aware that she had been hired. Which she found concerning. She cleared her throat again, it was tight with nerves. She quickly reached behind her to set the spatula on the counter and dropped her empty hands to her side, but it didn’t do much to make her appear less awkward. Which she usually wasn’t, but she’d never found herself in this situation before either.
He sounded different in the way he spoke to her now, than he did in interviews. On the YouTube videos she had watched his accent had been stronger. It was still very noticable, but also more controlled in a way.
Julianna stepped away from the stove when he moved closer, but she couldn’t help but smile at Lucy perched on his hip. The child responded with pleased babbles of her own, reaching for Jules with one wet hand. James seemed to be piecing together that Lucy was getting more attention than he was. He was still in his high chair, observing the adults and his sister as they mingled around the kitchen.
The nanny blinked up at Owen when he asked for her qualifications. “Oh. Well, I have a degree in early childhood education and development,” she paused, her gaze sliding across the island to James. He looked right back at her and she noticed the way his face screwed up, the tremble of his bottom lip. He reached for her. Julianna walked over and pulled the other twin into her arms. He instantly brightened now that the injustice he had felt had been righted. “I am CPR and First Aid certified, I am also certified in infant care and positive discipline.” She could have gone on and on about her various certificates and training courses. She was a professional nanny, after all, and she took pride in the position. She paused, however, because he had moved on to another line of questioning.
“I will get you a copy of my resume,” she offered, and without waiting for a response, she turned on her heel with James in tow and disappeared further into the house. She returned a few moments later, holding an impressive and orderly stack of papers held together by a clear booklet sleeve.
She nodded when he inquired about a trial period. “It’s not uncommon for me to work directly with the family for the first few days. Usually a week. Mrs. Kingston-Hart made it very clear that she needed me immediately, however. I believe I was verbally recommended to her by the wife of Senator Barnell. The last family I worked for. You can find their contact information in my resume.” She pressed her lips together, effectively silencing herself, realizing that she had rambled a ton of information at him at once. She shifted on her feet, switching James over to the opposite hip.

I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you.
