Once he focused his eyes on her, she felt a little trapped in place by that gaze. Something about it forced her to remain where she was, even if her hand at her side grasped the skirt a little more. Nothing Azreal did was threatening or crossed any lines. But what she saw in those eyes was not contempt or disgust, but appreciation. Part of her wanted to smile at his observation about her person. True, she was strong willed. But only as far as she could hide her emotions. Where most would have got teary eyed or cried a little in mention to their lack of family, Ashrun held her head high and looked him right in the eyes. Regardless how she clenched a hand at her side or toyed with her ear lobe to contain what she felt inside of her chest and throat. Motions and movements meant more than words. Often times they were regarded as a personal tick and ignored. She'd not blame anyone for not recognizing these things about her. None really knew anything more of Ashrun other than her name and curse.
But she did give him a little lopsided smile. She liked the way his scent drifted off of him. No longer drowning in the stink of whatever it was that had been drenched on his body before and the cooling scent of water and his own odor - even if it was from sweat - was preferable. Cologne and perfumes were foreign to her, and not that Ashrun knew if he had any on or not, but something covered his body in a strange scent that had stung her nose until now.
"<font color="#c69bf6]As I've mentioned, anyone else might have tried to kill you for what you have more than shelter and protect you." she looked over her shoulder at him, watching him crouch low in order to remove the shoes he wore on his feet. She watched him a moment, her hand releasing the skirt at her side as she controlled her heart once more. "<font color="#c69bf6]Not that I think you need protecting, but-....due first unto others what you wish to have done to you. Right?" the phrase was like a prayer the way it left her lips easily before she continued to the air lock door...
On the other side of the locked door, walking beside Azreal, she look a moment to unwrap her skirt from around her waist and let it once more fall to the floor. Trailing behind her a little as it circled around her waist. The slit was angled to the side so as she stepped with her right leg, a peek of her foot and ankle would peer out and show the simple string of turquoise stones strung together around her ankle. Her hands held behind her back as she walked toyed with the strings of her top. Wrapping them around her fingers as she watched where ever it was Azreal was looking. From one room to the next, each an empty room with but empty boxes and shelves. A little dusty, but encased in a room of metal for protectio<font color="#f2f5f8]n <font color="#ffffff]from outside. A few of the frames had simple doors of wood planks, crudely crafted and bound with some kind of rope braided together. While others were shut tight with metal doors - probably original design - and two had no door at all.<font color="#c69bf6" style="font-style:italic;] "Yes, all the better to protect you with, my pretty.....right?" Half of Ashrun wanted to apologize for saying something from a childish story. The other half - the one that had her chuckling softly - gave in to that fluttery feeling inside to allow her to enjoy and relax a little more within his company. He no doubt was playful. The comment about a loincloth and his sudden transformation into her were all signs that he was just that. A mask of serious business kept in the jester he no doubt could be. Maybe not a total fool, but enough to show he was somehow...manageable.
The pair walked past the long hall of storage and faced a stone wall. Carved into the side of the cave, to turned off into the earth and went straight for a while longer before turning once more just up ahead. The stone was a kind of streaked, marbleized natural surface. Dark grey undertones and streaks of what looked to be deep green appeared to be polished or wet. But the air was not damp, only cool. Thought the stone was carved out into the tunnels and walk ways, it was not smoothed out but for the path for their feet. There was frames of metal supports every five feet that had lights over head so their path was easy to travel without fear of being in the dark. The pale blue light from the large area beyond the transparent wall was left behind, bathing the pair all in white light.
"<font color="#c69bf6]I'm not sure I will be of good company, but I will try to be a good companion. It's been a long while since i've had any myself." she sighed a little, feeling the day weigh on her shoulders as they drooped just a little more. " <font color="#c69bf6]The last settlement I tried to incorporate myself into tried to have me killed. They managed a few good bruises, but nothing more I think." before she ran away, that is. Something always kept her from harming those that hurt her first. Perhaps it was because to do so would mean the closest settlements would hear of it and try to kill her should she be seen outside her home. The people of Aman did not outwardly try to kill her, only make life hard. But that thin line wavered almost daily.
They reached the end of the hall then and Ashrun turned to continue into the main area of the base. It opened up almost immediately onto another landing with a transparent wall into another section of the cavern and underground river to their left. However, this room looked to be a kind of large commons room with a side area for a kitchen. There were tables about closest to them. Metal frames and chairs with no cushions but a curved design to still be comfortable to sit in. Closest to the transparent wall were cushioned deck seats and benches. A place obviously used to observe the view in comfort with side tables beside each bench. Flowering plants were set on a few of the tables, bringing life and vibrant colors into the metal room. In the middle was a line of 5 stone pits carved from the rock and pitted so there could be the warmth of a fire to sit by. The same metal seats and cushioned benches circled around the fire pits as well as more side tables and plants.
Opposite from where they stood was another room with sliding doors and another hall way. Green words spelling out 'Lab 1' were spaced along the doors they could see.
But what had Ashrun's attention was the room just opposite of the transparent wall. She motioned to it with her chin, lifting a hand to his shoulder to get his attention as Azreal took in the sights of the area she brought them to. "<font color="#c69bf6]That is the main food storage section and kitchen. My rooms has a smaller cooking area, but it is a more comfortable space. I-....don't recommend using the fire pits in here. The smoke has no where to escape to." She motioned up then, looking to the ceiling to show there were no air vents or the like that would allow the smoke to escape from.
Moving forward just one more step, Ashrun paused when he asked if she would join him in his bath. Was he testing her? Another joke to see her reaction or was he in earnest? True, she was not one that was experienced with the types of things that happened with a man and a woman, but she wasn't stupid either. Or naive. When men talked while no one was around - or so they thought - she heard things.
Ashrun stood straight then, twisting her waist around to look at him while her foot swiveled about to make the turn easier and less strenuous to maintain. She blatantly looked him up and down. Inspecting his form and his face with a different gleam in her eye. Twice she looked at him. Once to size him up when they first crossed paths and the other a pre-measuring assessment to fashion him clothes to wear. Neither were taking in what they saw in any carnal way. However, this time she did. She imagined her tiny self - in-comparison to him anyways - being held in his arms. Or hanging from his neck by her arms. She knew her feet would not even touch the ground should he stand straight. Ashrun let her mind and eyes rest on his hands, thinking of how his touch would feel along her skin. Running in her hair and along her arms when she remembered her deformities. Flinching visibly, she turned away from him and grasped the material of her skirt with her left hand once more with a clenched fist. "<font color="#c69bf6]I think perhaps not...." she whispered in the silent room. Periwinkle eyes cast down as she spoke before she looked at him as she had before, an empty expression and a stance of pure confidence. "<font color="#c69bf6]I do enjoy your company and you are not without appeal, but to start a friendship with physical needs and unnecessary contact isn't how I want to maintain....us." She held his gaze a while, keeping her composure until another wave of exhaustion hit her shoulders. Feeling a little deflated after her explanation, her right hand came up and ran her fingers along the foliage surrounding her eye.
"<font color="#c69bf6]I'll show you to my rooms and you can bath there..." Ashrun quickly padded along the metal flooring towards the kitchen area and yet hidden behind a large potted tree was another door way that lead to where ever she was headed. Once at the entrance did she stop and wait for Azreal, her hand not releasing it's grasp on her skirt. For a moment, she did not face him. Her head down as she felt foolish for speaking as she did when she knew it was only a joke on his behalf. One a little too close to her heart to brushed off easily. Perhaps he knew that and made the jest anyways if only to be cruel. most didn't need more of a reason than that.
But she did look up as he approached and her hand rose to rub at her ear lobe. A red hue across her cheeks while she tried to offer him an apologetic smile.
Once more walking side by side, the pair continued down another hall of rooms. All intact with metal sliding doors and panels beside each one. Most panels had no power and a few seemed to be smashed as if someone attempted to break into the room by destroying what kept it locked in the first place. A few had the ID card keys already with in them and would blink green when they passed by as if ready to be opened. Yet all of these were passed. Easily some of the rooms appeared to be large enough to fit at least three people easily. perhaps five if all were all small as Ashrun. But with someone as slight as she and the items found in his location, it was obvious the furnishings were made for people of Azreals height and structure. Where the panel locks would perhaps be at Azreal's chest, they would be in a direct line to Ashrun's eyes.
The pair moved forward, turning this way and that down a very long corridor and a few other halls that had signs reading 'Lab Area 1-4' or -Lab Area 5-9'. Not until they reached a small stair case did they reach their destination. At the top of the stairs was a set of double doors. A plaque above the unlocked panel read 'Captains Quarters.' "<font color="#c69bf6]This is it. I hope you don'd mind the trek to get here." Stepping towards the doors, they opened on their own for Ashrun to walk in first.
