She was puzzled, as mortals often were in the face of the Wisp. Sometimes he was more plain in his speech and his manner, but this was not one of those days. It was not a choice that he made, as with most things; the Wisp did not get many choices when it came to manner. He was what he was, what he was wanted to be, and to be anything else required great effort on his part. Effort, energy, and would only make him hungrier.
He did not care if she understood what she was agreeing to, as long as she was agreeing to it. It was the tricky part, that misunderstandings were allowable but lies were not. As long as the misunderstanding got him fed, that was what mattered.
She seemed as if she might be considering giving him her mouth, as he had suggested. It was not an ideal trade, but he would make up what he lost in sustenance with amusement – which was almost as good. It could be terribly boring, waiting around for mortals to make poor decisions. Not boring enough to sacrifice a meal entirely, but part of a meal might be worth it. It wasn't kind, amusing himself at her expense, but even most mortals knew better than to consider fae kind.
Her consideration seemed to give way to annoyance, which did not serve his ends. Though, surprisingly, her response to that annoyance was not to try and leave. Rather, she set herself down in his lap, which was really quite forward for a woman of her sort. But implicitly she had agreed to being touched in return, which made some things easier for him. Even less expected was when she pressed her mouth to his, the voice that filled his mind but not his ears.
"Well," he said, indignant. "Here I have gone through all this trouble to offer you something you already had." He could easily have gotten out from under her if he wanted, but he chose to remain, to keep his form tangible. He may have made himself a little warmer than entirely necessary, because it amused him to see how she would react if he did. "You ought to have told me sooner that you'd no need of what I offered," he said, ignoring that it seemed to require such intimate contact, "and I'd have offered you something better." He clicked his tongue disapprovingly. "Such troublesome things are mortal women."
