<img style="max-width:25%;float:right;margin:0 0 18px 18px;" src="http://i.imgur.com/FXQBglf.png" style="avatar]Rhailo Destros was considered a flight risk, so she was kept grounded. Detained. A small cell in Nar Shaddaa's loading quarter was where Hutta interplanetary forces housed her, with a few wayward guards pacing the halls of their cubed office building. Honestly, if she wasn't busy using a laser switch as a jimmied lock pick, she might have taken offense; after all, her methods were seen as being quite cunning. Had the woman not been a severe problem in great need of remedying, she wouldn't be contained to begin with- but the logic behind their imprisonment protocol was lost on her. Time didn't wait for the thoughts to settle though, and the small beam of energy she maneuvered like a stylus only had so much juice left in it's waning battery life. Fingers eased the measure against the light frame of the jail cell, sparking discontent across the face of the energy door. Rifts in the fabric shot across the front, testing the solidity of her exit time and time again.

Searching, opalescent hues finally found a hole in the barrier. "Oh, you lot really didn't plan ahead..." The woman smiled into her commentary, crouched to re-position just before sliding the point of her pen-like device through the severed material. Something in the mesh sizzled, and collectively, the entire framework crumpled loosely where the middle was breached, leaving it to hang like a toppled hammock while she rose to step over her handiwork. Stylus was pocketed while her figure sauntered along, one stiletto heel clicking extra hard as she activated her camouflage tech. Suddenly, what had once been the buxom figure with startling features and moonlit hair now appeared to those around her as nothing more than a factory model R2-71 unit. The most common custodial unit on Nar Shaddaa.

Leaving the facility was a fucking joke. If androids laughed as loudly as she did when the cityscape stretched before her some moments later, Rhailo would have to look into acquiring one of her own. A reminder of another eventful outing. The disguise dissipated as she coasted the streets, drifting between shops and shuffling pedestrians all trying to make their way from low end to high roller. Nar Shaddaa was, in some ways, a real escape from typical galactic tyranny, but it had enough crime to sink lesser planets into far worse states. The nightlife was the real draw, she assumed, as clubs with flashing neon signs burned as effigies to lost causes and loose morals. There were endless ways to lose one's self in the atmosphere of the metropolis, but Rhailo didn't have time to table dance and gamble the very last of her credits; not with syndicate enforcer's still looking for her.

As it was, the Auroun female owed more credits than could be payed off in several life times. God, she knew it too, because every bookie, loan shark, club jockey, and mob boss on this flashbulb spaceport was trying to track her down. And, if said search parties couldn't have the credits due, they could have her, and such a concept wasn't so outrageous when one knew a bit about her people. It almost made sense to think they might prefer her instead. Rhailo was one of the very few Aurouns on this side of the galaxy, and even elsewhere, they weren't a common race to come across in one's space journeying. The common misconception was the Auroun were hunted and enslaved by a neighboring quadrant's government, but this wasn't anywhere near the truth, and even Rhailo wasn't so cocky to believe her people to be desirable enough to be the chosen slave race of war mongers on Anassi Prime.

Yet there was a certain air to the creature that seemed to attract attention, even when she was doing her best to look inconspicuous within the denizens in transit. Sights followed her shapely figure when Rhailo sidled around smaller races scooting past her ankles, and anonymous catcalls sounded from alleyways every other street she bypassed. Her destination was a dingy cantina many wouldn't consider more than a crack in the wall, but when it was finally in her sights, the unique Auroun ducked from the populace and headed inside.

Idly, her hands toyed at belt hoops on her pants, thumbs poking through to hang forgotten while Rhailo sauntered through the dimly lit bar. No one seemed to want to look her way, save maybe the six armed bartender, though he only had a snort to share with this familiar patron.

"What, no welcome wagon? You guys gotta be kidding me.." Rhailo reached a particularly skittish creature where it perched in a seat far too large for it's Rat-like body, and one leg shot out to kick over the stool, sending the alien flying to the floor with a miserable squeak. "What's that, Grauzli? You got something to say to me after you fucking snitched?" Rhailo brought a heel up and stepped on the throat of the animal while she continued with, "And none of you fucking idiots thought to teach the informant a lesson? Fucking pathetic."

Rhailo's heel didn't stop it's descent until the gurgles of beast were silenced, it's thrashing limbs ceasing to move after it's throat was crushed. Such was their lives in the belly of the beast known as Nar Shaddaa.

"Whatever. I'll be the fucking exterminator, as always.." Strange opal shaded orbs were directed back to the bar, and she commented, "You're awful quiet for someone who owes me a favor."

"Gonna cash it in?" The bartender asked as several of his arms moved around, busied with cleaning glasses and wiping down the counter area.

"Yeah, lemme cash it. How about you tell me who the hell is looking for me?" Rhailo picked up the seat she had previously kicked over and settled it down near the alien, beckoning him closer with a single manicured finger. "I end up in minimum lockdown when the rat rat's on me, but we both fucking know they were only holding me..."

"Yeah, heard that." The creature, with his almost reptilian features, seemed to narrow his gaze. "They got someone professional headed this way. Don't know the details, don't know the time frame... But from what I've head, someone wants you bad."

Rhailo couldn't help laughing at his words, offering, "Tell me something I don't know, pal. Right, whatever. That ain't enough information to count for a favor... But I'll leave you guys out of this." Back to her feet she went, giving the patrons a sweeping look before adding on her way back through the door, "Be a shame is anyone mentioned I was here..."

As much as she might have loved sticking around to intimidate the lowlifes of the lower end, Rhailo had an apartment to head to. Even a rampaging gambler required having a shitty loft to crash in, and it just so happened to be where the supplies needed to get through this uncomfortable conundrum were stored. Probably about time for the woman to get the hell off this space trash planet anyway, considering just how extensive the damage to her reputation had become. Even knowing she was being hunted didn't actually help her, as she had enough organizations riled up, it could have been any of their orders. Perhaps there would be multiple bounties on her head at this point; she didn't want to think about it.

The streets got darker the farther she moved away from the casinos and bars, her apartment a top shelf dive in it's own right, crammed between countless small businesses of a less than reputable variety. A shoddy elevator shot her up 71 stories, past all the other gamblers and pimps and urchins residing in the building, and then stopped abruptly to spit her out. The hallway looked like someone had taken a blow torch to the walls a few times, but Rhailo was seemingly un-phased. After all, she lived here- she knew it was a shit hole. The door opened after the facial recognition software finally kicked in, so for about five minutes, she just poked her tongue out and made an array of faces to pass the time.

Inside, Rhailo tensed, sniffing the air. Someone had been there... The woman could smell battery acid and some other fuel source she had no reason to own, and it put pause to her plans of rummaging through her belongings.

"Hello?" Was all she asked, but it was loud enough to cut through the static quiet. Peculiar orbs searched for movement, for light sources, for an unfamiliar shape... Anything out of place.

Somethings just happened.

Justified or not, that was the way of the different Galaxies. Some more than others. That didn't mean that it had to be okay. That one should lay back and let life screw you three ways from Sunday with a spork full of lemon juice. Of course not. But sometimes, there was no visible reason why things happened. People died and people lived. The evil won over the good, and then tripped over a rock and broke their jaw. Karma was one thing, revenge was another.

And that's exactly how the 'Valar' shifter came to be in this mess...

The turquoise sun rose and was followed by the orange and red, shadowing what was promising to be a nice, cool day into a murky, humid thing of nightmares. Creeping like a snake along the tops of the semi-hibernating trees - and those that refused to turn color - it inched closer and closer to the hillside settlement. Homes built of fallen trees, logs tied to make walls or mud and grass plastered to stick woven frames made up the main five buildings. or huts. Three were homes and one a market. Namely, a large building of wood and stone with one room for trading. There was currency involved, but it was perhaps as rare as a pink moon. The last building was of the same make. Sturdy and even held a few carvings. That was the home of the settlement laird.

The 'town mayor'. Though, once you were taken out of the city walls, there was no law but for what you brought upon yourself and those you lived with. If you lived with anyone. Most were removed from within the walls of Aman city with not but a bag of bread and the clothes on their back. Some were even removed as punishment for crimes. Anarchy bliss for those who wished for freedom of law, and a life of fear for others. Outside the walls of the city, no one was above another.

<img style="max-width:30%;float:center;margin:0 8px;" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/bob2/female/Ashrun%20-%20Aman_zpskoodvdn3.png" style="avatar]

That is, no one was below any other than the 'Valar'. A shifter of no life but one form. Yet not even a form of the planet she was born to. Alitetaal Resadlioh Ilasang - or Ashrun - was not like the other 'Amanali' shifters. They could run as a kirnbot, fly as a nighbyd and slither like a snake.

She, however, preferred the form of a chair or a piece of string. Hence her cursed name of 'Valar'. The life-less or un-dead. True, there was one form she could take. An earth red-panda. One she forced herself to learn as a child when a book was shown to her of the creature. Not scary or at all dreaded, the form was to hope for others to accept the existence of one such as her. Yet it only made them dislike her more. An outcast among the out-casted.

Still, even after the last 26 years without living within the walls of Aman, her own home was something most wished they had. Luxuries, due to her connections inside the city.

But not even the soft comfort of her bed or the cold stones could help her now. Not after what had been done but the night before.

A prank on the market place, pulling the lock from the doors to allow the critters inside. Not knowing one had left their goods behind to save on the travel time. Ruined breads and fruits, mangled adornments and many other items that caused the chaos to the lives of many. Neatly innocent, she had taken part in the nectars again. And with the children, opened the market doors the night before.

Luckily, she was not within the confines of her home when she was taken. None knew where it was due to how the people were not to be trusted and her home well hidden in plain view. Almost.

"You opened the market and allowed our half brothers to ravage our goods, disturbing the life of our home. Yet again, Valar." Alitetaal grimaced at the name and tried not to flinch at his accurate accusation from their laird Omnri. He stared down at her. A towering man in comparison to the little sprite. His word was law so long as she worked the tree tops with the others and ate the shared meal from their labors.

"....Not like I was trying t-..." a hand clapped over her mouth, forcing her from the grip of the guard that snagged her from the woods to bring her to the meeting. She fell back into the crowd, all who could grasped and pulled at her. Intending to do more harm before the guard took hold and pulled her back to meet her justice on the stand. The shouting and anger died down once more.

"Do not speak again, or you are to no longer have shared meals with us for a 80 moons. Now, confess and you will be punished mercifully." large hands signaled to his woman - a crass old cow that ate more than her share of the meals. The two shared a glance and Alitetaal ground her teeth, seething at the edges that they were to harm her. Again. The welts and cuts from their last judgement only just healed. The bruise to her face would remain a lot longer.

The old cow - a name she never cared to learn - brought forward a metal bar wrapped in cloth, nearly hesitant to hand it to her laird but did so anyways.

Alitetaal did nothing but cross her arms over her chest and turn her back to him. Chin high. Until the first blow fell to the top of her head, breaking off the twig stuck in her hair and knocking her to the ground once more. Still able to move, she saw the crowd move to rush at her. Intending on doing more than just a ritualistic beating. That was when something wet splashed on them. Giving the room a bit of a shock and Ashrun to use her own given name. Powder fulled the space she inhabited then, an instant 'poof' before a black cloud of pepper rose from where she once lay and made others choke or cough.

She felt the space about her turn and circle as she drifted up out of the room via a high window, knowing any attempt to shift and give chase was being thwarted by her attack on them. Leaving behind a room of coughing, sneezing Amanali.

But the day was just starting.

The wind caught Ashrun as she drifted away, turning her upside down and filtering through the trees as she drifted along. In a way, she wanted to hum at her freedom. But things were not safe just yet. After what happened, she had to move. There was no staying within the settlement she was with any longer. Perhaps leave and find another or be on her own for a while. No meal sharing. Just what she was able to find and plant or kill. Yeah. She ate her 'half brothers'. Not feeling part of the world did that to you. And some were delicious. Not all of them, but some.

The thought of food made her stomach growl. Or, what she felt shift through her body was like a growl. A painful circling that churned her insides and forced her to shift back with her usual pop. Which when taking her birth form was more like the sound of rice moving along inside a cylinder. But the change was too soon. Her body was stuck between half pepper cloud, half solid form. Legs were missing where her torso and up was intact. perhaps a few particles of herself was left behind somewhere? Making her form incomplete? Or perhaps it was her curse. Just one more thing that would remain long after she had changed back. If the petals of wood chips along the side of her brow and wing of metal on her back was not indication of sad curse, the arm that looked to be wires and gears was by far the most obvious.

But it wasn't the change in Alitetaal form that made her freeze in place and duck to the floor, her hands covering her head from flying bedris. It was the grounded air craft that had crashed much too close to her hidden home that was her main focus. And it looked to be from the city, which could only mean another purging.

Kat

<img style="" src="http://i.imgur.com/D1GW1no.png" style="max-width:100%;]
</sub>
<div align="justify]
They said when the dollar went to shit, the oil would dry up soon after. Sure enough, barely ten years time, there were land wars waged for that sacred fuel source, causing countless casualties and endless property damage. Bombs and tanks and guns, and in a pinch, bottles were all used to destroy the foundation of modern society, setting the once all knowing, all seeing government scurrying back to it's rat hole. That's when the gangs took charge, wrangled the law into their grubby meat hunks, and set in motion a sort of bartering system to ensure you got what you paid for.

The world is a series of wastelands; continents adrift with populations crushed beneath the weight of inhospitable conditions. Diseases unknown to humanity for generations suddenly take out entire countries, followed by famine and the shortage of food and supplies. There didn't need to be a game of nuclear tag, but that happened too, and it decimated whole cities into nothing more than a sea of ash, glass, and twisted metal. Survival relied heavily on ingenuity and strength, and those who were quick thinkers made themselves scarce when territories were fought over by survivors. It took years to reach any semblance of recovery, and even that was laughable - just a few shacks built in the same general area as the cities, their small farms good for barely enough to constitute the water wasted. Imagine an entire world of shacks and dirt farms, settled from the coast to coast along major highways.

That's the Wasteland.

It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the marauders. Humanity's sickness was never cured. There was no writing out violence, and if there was one thing everyone expects to be met with regularly, it's pressure from the bike gangs. They're the sort of people to rob you blind and steal your wife, because if you thought you could stand up to them, they'd take a 25lb sledge to the back of your head. The gangs only really respect the caravans because they keep them fed and entertained. Caravans, in essence, are well off nomads working together in moving town units. They provided the goods no one else can, and in exchange for protection, they gave much of their findings to the marauders. Townsfolk just accept the shakedowns and try and continue with their lives as best they can.

Wanderers and nomads are a dime a dozen, because it's easy to get into, and hard to fuck up. Avoid major encampments unless you have things to sell, and sell them quick when you do. Caravans aren't afraid to pick off roaming travelers on the off chance there's competition, but the surviving nomads are smart, quick, and rarely seen.

Dregs are the lowest of the low, with all sorts of ailments and injuries no one is really equipped to deal with. Lepers of the scorched sands, they have small encampments across the Mojave and elsewhere, but they are better described as hovels ram-shackled together to house the dying. Some warn they've turned to cannibalism on the dead and dying, as they are otherwise too weak to stop bikers from robbing other food sources. Some Dregs simply steal from the less fortunate they meet along the highways. Generally speaking, no one really wants to encounter dregs because they're disgusting and violent, and if you're lucky, you never will.
