Julianna paused for a moment, as if she was in turn surprised by his response. "Really?" She questioned his affirmation of an outing with the over-eager energy of a child who'd been told they could have a puppy. Catching herself in the act, she cleared her throat and went back to arranging soaps, feigning a cool and collected air while her stomach flipped with anticipation. She cleared her throat and corrected herself by saying, "I mean, that sounds great. I close early on Sunday. We could go then. If you're free?"
There was a collective gasp behind her from the triplets. "Miss Jules!" They called her name and she turned to find them gathered at the window behind her counter. It overlooked the tidy rows of lavender that grew in abundance and gave the farm its name. It was darker now, so she wasn't entirely sure what they could be looking at.
"What is it?"
"There's something happening outside!"
Exchanging a curious look with Owen, she abandoned her task at the soap display and crossed the room to join the children at the window. "What was it?" She leaned over them to peer out into the dark field. At first, she didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Mostly because it was dark, but the boys were adamant that they had seen something.
"Just wait!" They urged. So she did and her patience paid off. There was glimmer of something. Many somethings. Like tiny lights in the distance. They boys all gasped again. "There!" Ethan and Nic said in unison.
"What are those," Cain asked.
"Those are fireflies," she explained, straightening to her full height. Which wasn't much taller than the triplets to be perfectly honest. They were only seven or eight and already they stood past her waist.
"Fireflies?" They echoed all at once. Julianna was charmed by the synchrony. They were so individual in their own way, but still such a close knit unit.
Julianna cocked her head at them. 'You've never seen fireflies?" she asked and they shook their heads at her. "Come with me."
Taking Cain's uninjured hand, she lead the boys out of the back door and into the lavender field that they had been watching. It didn't take her long to catch one of the little lightening bugs. She brought it back to the boy's who gathered around her with elated curiosity as she knelt down to show them. It turned into a mini science lesson as Julianna explained how they lit up their bodies to send signals to each other. Their presence in the garden had stirred up the bugs into a excitement and they lit up more frequently, creating an almost magical scene around them.

I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you.
