Julianna's neutral mask cracked on the surface for just a moment. Her mouth twisted in a grimace and her brow furrowed as she was bombarded with a series of images of Owen enjoying idle times with Lilian. They were as clear in her mind as he remembered them. Long blonde hair all twisted up in his hands as he thrust into her again and again. She could hear the feminine, ardent moans of the woman she would never meet.
Neither of the blondes in the room were paying enough attention to her now to notice this change in her countenance. Busy enjoying a bit of friendly banter. Julianna cast her gaze to floor when Owen touched Dr. Reed. Missing the part where she casually bat his hands away from her. Maeve playfully rolled her eyes at him while Julianna simmered in her envy. Owen touched her so freely and there was an affection for her that Julianna couldn't place.
Julianna knew it was the pact and the feeling of possession that made her jealousy crescendo. She tried to subdue the feelings. They would even out, in time, as they settled into their connection.
"Fascinating," was all the Doctor had to say to Owen's falsified tale of Julianna's history.
Maeve plucked one of the drinks that Owen brought from the desk but didn't sip it. Instead, she held it loosely in one hand. She crossed the opposite arm beneath her breast and rested her elbow upon it. She was looking at Julianna now and the demon could see that she had violet eyes. Unusual, and pretty. The way she tapped the glass against her bottom lip, painted matte red, made it appear as if she were critiquing Julianna. Like one would a piece of art.
"It's lovely to meet you, Dr. Reed," the demon said politely, though her tone was chilly. Maeve smirked at her. Julianna didn't like that at all.
Maeve sipped at her scotch in time with Owen and Julianna noticed a whole host of similarities between them. "She's pretty," Maeve commented.
They were both taller than Julianna. Maeve matched Owen but only because of her heels. They both had shimmering blonde hair that transitioned from pale yellow to gold and fair skin. Their gazes were calculating and detached as they assessed her from head to toe. "Lilian was pretty but required so much extra training. Perhaps, this one will be a quick learner." They all new without the heavy subtext that Maeve was not talking about filing and taking messages. It seemed to Julianna that they both knew that Owen chose his secretaries for other reasons.
Maeve picked up Julianna's drink and moved to hand it to her. The demon hesitated to take it from her out of spite. She glanced at Owen, and knew he had expectations of her that included being charming with his pretty blonde friend. Julianna's fingers unlaced from the top of her thighs and she held out her hand to retrieve the glass.
Except, at some point, Maeve had pulled a length of delicate silver chain from one of the many pockets of her uniform jacket. So, instead of the drink she had expected, Maeve let the chain slip from where she had held it concealed between her fingers and the glass and let it fall over Julianna's hand and settle on her wrist.
The metal burned on her skin. Julianna hissed in pain and stepped away from the other woman. She pushed at the charmed metal with her other hand until it fell off of her and coiled on the floor where it looked harmless.
Julianna held her injured arm against her chest. Looking to Owen for an explanation to such an insult. A betrayal.
Maeve upturned the last of the amber liquid into her mouth and set the empty glass back on to his desk. "Fascinating," she said again.

I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you.
