He swept through the halls, crystal faux-torches lighting themselves in their path. It was a gratuitous show of power, but not one he even thought about. It was automatic for him.
He was a little bit excited, almost nervous. He really did want her for a test, after all. He'd been working hard on this project for months, and now he was going to see if it had been worth it. His work didn't normally necessitate the involvement of another person, so usually no one saw it until it was ready to be unveiled. Letting someone see what might yet turn out to be a failure went against his instincts.
Under other circumstances, he might have hired a girl off the street for this. At least a girl being paid would have kept her mouth shut.
Unless he asked.
Anyway.
"You'll be fine," he said, not caring if she believed him. "It isn't dangerous, as long as you can stand still." He lead her finally into the room he'd been using as a workshop for this project, where it sat in the middle of the room.
A gown on a mannequin, deep blue embroidered with gold thread and seed beads of crystal. The beading grew denser nearer to the bottom of the skirt, until it looked almost white. More beading edged the long hanging sleeves, which bared the shoulders. It was held up instead by thin fabric straps that met with what could only be called a collar of the same dark blue silk. A single larger crystal sat at the center of that built-in choker.
He looked her over, a tilt to his mask. "You're going to have to take your clothes off," he said.
