“Close your eyes. You won't need them open for the spell.”
Charity did as Nicholas asked without question. A scholarly rivalry had existed between them for as long as she could remember but that did not mean she did not trust him. He was not a malicious person that wished to do her harm. He was simply a cocky and competitive magician, and they were the same in that way. While she was focusing on the strange incantation, he took her hand again and she let him, passive under his manipulation. Her brow furrowed, questioningly, and she was temped to open her eyes to see what he was binding their hands together with, but the oil he'd placed on his lids felt heavy, keeping her from doing so.
The magic continued to build around her and she felt like she was suspended in the energy of it. Everything faded away. Nicholas' voice reciting the incantation with her, and the general ambiance of the room. She could see even though her eyes weren't open, but it was no longer his bedroom she was seeing. It was just him, but also not him. His magic. Pinpoints of power within him like the brighter stars of a constellation. The colors of his aura swirling together like alcohol ink in water.
She searched this inner part of him for anything strange or out of place. She probed for malicious magics or anything that could have been left behind by the witch that meant him harm. Charity searched until the pressure of the spell was too much. A ridiculous amount of energy was at play and when she opened her eyes it felt like breaching the surface of the ocean after being underwater for so long. She inhaled deeply, but she couldn't pull away or exit the circle. She was still bound to Nicholas. She needed to do something with the force that was pushing against her, needed to dispel it or at least disperse it. Without thinking, she leaned forward and kissed Nicholas, pulling him closer with the hand she held.
It was only meant to be a kiss, something to bridge the energy between them, so it didn't over power her. It was only supposed to be a kiss, but her free hand went to his hair and he didn't pull away. It was only meant to be a kiss, but the hand on her hip wasn't exactly discouraging as she straddled his lap and he moved to accommodate her.
It was only meant to be a kiss, but-
Charity woke up suddenly. Like she had been having one of those dreams where you are falling. Her eyes adjusted quickly to the half-light of the room and she was face to face with Nicholas. His arm was around her middle and he was still fast asleep. She observed his face in slumber, without that cocky lift of his brow he was almost endearing. Tolerable even. Her tail tapped a nervous rhythm as she thought about the ritual they had performed and the sex they had had as a result of it. Charity blushed as she recalled the events.

I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you.
