Fisel had resigned to a limp, effortless position as she was reeled towards the center of the room. The shadowy figment wrapped around her legs did not seem to be straining with the effort to apprehend her, but she would not go out of her way to make it easy. She was more annoyed at being captured at all, than she was worried about the consequences. She was confident in her ability to talk her way out of any resulting situation, and if it came down to the authorities being called, they were always easy enough to get away from.
Alarm rose, momentarily, as restraining silhouettes climbed higher up her legs. Fighting instincts kicked in, and she attempted to sit up, to stand, in the hopes that she was stronger than supernatural bonds.
She was not.
The thief sensed the baron’s approach before he appeared. The oncoming presence of magic was too strong to be that of an apprentice or a servant, not that he was known to have either residing within the mansion with him.
His entrance was, just that, an entrance. More shadows, twisting, threatening, looming, like a puffed up bird defending its nest. She should have been more concerned, what with sharing a room with a spoken-to-be-powerful warlock who’s home you had broken in to. But, there was something about the mask, as ominous as it was meant to be, with illuminated filigree and an elongated beak that had her fighting an amused smirk that was threatening to tug one corner of her mouth.
Do not mock the potentially dangerous warlock, who’s home you have just broken in to.
“Trespassing?” she repeated, cocking her head, trying and failing to sound genuinely confused; innocent if she could manage it. Shadows were wrapping around her wrists and she let it happen, compliance would work in her favor she believed. “I must have gotten lost somewhere. You are certainly not Duchess LaFontaine.”
She intentionally ignored his second question, but cat-like eyes still darted towards the bureau, before sliding back to the position she assumed his eyes would be.
“What an unfortunate misunderstanding.”
