Rau ate his meat, taking breaks between bites to cast a glance her way when she spoke. He could tell that his remark about not being a savage had rubbed her a little sorely, but that was not important. His feelings hadn't been hurt, regardless, and he was about as close to being a savage as he could get without being one. He hunted when he needed food, and he had no use for clothes, but that did not mean he was a violent creature. And he could hear the regret in her tone when she responded to the statement. He didn't respond to it. It was fruitless to continue that conversation, and there were much more interesting questions on her mind, apparently.
She went on to ask about what he was doing here, and he smiled a bit, amused by the thought of him having an origin elsewhere, though he swallowed his food and gave some thought to his answer before he spoke up. He'd been here for as long as he could remember, or cared to, and while his story wasn't the one he was particularly interested in telling, he didn't mind shedding some light on why he hadn't left this inhospitable realm.
"May be strange, but this is home. I am used to life here, and I am safe here. You are safe with me here, but you will be safer with your kind."
So there it was, the acknowledgment that he wasn't human. At least it was out in the open, though he had no doubts that she had already had her suspicions. He had no intention of answering any of the undoubtedly incoming questions on that subject. It wasn't that he was sore of the subject, or that he needed it to remain secret, but rather that it wasn't a terribly interesting thing to think about. He was, after all, just what he was, as she was, and in the same way that her culture and her people didn't particularly stand out to him as interesting, he assumed a similar case from the other side. Questions about his kind were cursory, it seemed to him.
"I have been here for a very long time."
With that, he swallowed the last of his meat and settled into an easy resting sit against the wall of the cave, back against the wall, to get some sleep. He had, after all, been awoken by the crash that had led him to her. If she chose to get some sleep, it would also ease her mind to see that he was resting as well. To see that he was willing to take that first step into vulnerability, if you could call it that.
Even so, if she spoke to him again, asked him more questions or somesuch, he would answer her, eyes still closed.

The mind is a fantastic, dangerous place. Don't go alone.
