Owen watched her messing with his phone with a sort of bemused expression on his face. He rested his elbow on the table and his jaw on his fingers in a pose filled with attitude. His eyebrows climbed higher as he watched her audaciously take a selfie. Her manicured nails clicked on his screen for longer than was necessary to give his phone a once-over.

She was flirting with him in her own way.

"Don't drop it." He said with a smirk teasing her about the earlier mishap that led them to this moment.

He nodded his agreement with Juliann's menu suggestion and immediately closed his to signal the waitress they were ready to order. Owen let Julianna take the lead in placing the order and added a beer for himself.

"I don't know any dog trainers. I'm not a pet owner." He admitted. "Being an anchor and still trying to do investigative journalism takes up too much time."

"Your dog is a terror though, you really should fix that." He smirked again at her.

"So why'd you move here, again? Work? Boyfriend?" He wasn't sure whether she struck him as the move-for-my-boyfriend type of girl.

He kept mentioning how awful her dog was and she fake pouted at him. She was trying to forget that her puppy was a terror and a cross-country move wasn't helping anything. "Maybe we should have gotten you a screen protector," she joked as she she handed his phone back. Boldy leaving her newly added contact information up on the display.

"There are plenty of pets for busy investigative journalists," she teased. The waitress returned with their beers and some seasonal side dishes as appetizers. She took a long drink to avoid having to talk about her dog's behavior anymore. Barker was a work in progress.

They both were.

And they'd get there. Eventually.

"Like fish," she chimed. She picked up her chopsticks and picked up a spicy bit of cucumber to pop into her mouth.

Julianna chewed slowly as he asked about her new residency in his quaint little town. For a moment she looked like she might pretend she didn't hear him. Snacking on more pickled vegetables. "Change of scenery," she said, finally. Which was only sort of a lie and she wasn't ready to admit that they would be working together.
