RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - saronym - 09-15-2017

“Well I’m glad the bear didn’t eat you up.” He laughed from in front of her before he gave her an entirely too knowing look over his shoulder as she emerged from between the rocks. “He definitely wanted to.”

Their teasing feel by the wayside as the landscape captured her imagination. He, however, was captured by the image of her in awe. The way he watched her seemed to mirror the way she absorbed the view. With a kind of unobscured admiration. Owen liked that she didn’t affect an air of indifference or simply see the landscape as some kind of idyllic backdrop for a snapshot on her big day. She just seemed to enjoy it for what it was. He felt for a moment like he was sharing something special with her. The fleeting thought of her pending wedding left a sour taste in his mouth as a wave of worry that this moment might be all he would get to have alone with her.

Owen checked his watch and then plopped right down to lean back against a boulder. He stared up at her and smirked while patting the ground next to him. “The sun will be set here in a little bit.” This was his matter-of-fact way of requesting that she watch the sun finish setting at his side.

“I’ll deliver you back after, how about that? Unless you don’t want to?” He turned his smirk forward, staring straight ahead while the sun sunk off to his left an orange orb half set.

Julianna’s upcoming wedding was rattling around in Owen’s head, more than her own. She’d nearly forgotten all about it, honestly. Swept away with the crisp mountain breeze that swayed her dark hair gently across her shoulders. “If he wanted to eat me, I think he would have,” she replied. One hand pushed a wayward lock behind her ear, while the other reached for her camera. She lifted the device towards her face, but paused. Hesitating, Julianna was sure she wouldn’t be able to capture the majesty of this scene with a picture. Not truly. Too many elegant details would be lost. She let the camera hang from the strap again. Besides, she didn’t feel like she wanted to share this moment with anyone but Owen anyway.

Glancing at her escort over her shoulder, she found him lowering to the ground and patting an empty space next to him. Julianna shifted on her feet and cocked her head at him cutely as if she was taking the time to consider his offer. Soon enough she was trotting over and dropping down next to him. She was immediately close enough that her arm pushed up against his. She sat cross-legged and her knee bumped against his leg.

When he suggested taking her back to the ranch, Julianna sighed and her shoulders slumped. She rolled her eyes up to his and pouted at him. “I don’t want to go back,” she whined. She dropped her head onto his shoulder and continued to look up at him with big puppy dog eyes. “Maeve wants to get everything done right now, but the flight was long and the drive was longer and I just want to hang out for a while.” She sighed again. “It’s too much to think about,” she said, neglecting to explain that she didn’t want to think about it. Didn’t want to get married. “Sorry,” she mumbled. “I’m sure you didn’t come up here to listen to some city girl whine.”

Owen felt the weight of her head drop against his shoulder and he turned his head to gaze down at the small woman that pouted up at him. He snorted and couldn’t hide the grin on his face from the feeling of elation that welled up inside at having her so close. He couldn’t help but sense that she was flirting with him.

His arm slipped easily around her when she started complaining about her wedding. He squeezed her arm and rubbed briskly to offer some small reassurance. Although, he wasn’t entirely sure if he wanted to be reassuring about a wedding he wasn’t keen on letting happen.

“We can play hooky a little bit longer then.” He offered feeling mighty clever with himself. The hand that had pulled her close to him snuck upwards under her jaw to tilt her face upwards towards his. “No need to rush on making wedding plans.” He said softly as his gaze skirted from her eyes to her lips as if surveying the possibility for a kiss.

He leaned towards her somewhat hesitantly as if gauging her potential reaction. This could go horribly. Or it could go well. When his lips met hers his hand retreated from her jaw to the back of her neck. His other hand lifted to cup her cheek, pushing her hair away from her face on that side.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - megs - 10-02-2017

When his arm came around her, Julianna cuddled closer, tucking herself tightly against him. His hand curved perfectly around her side, as if they were perfectly matched like two pieces of a puzzle.

“That could be fun,” she replied to his offer to avoid their responsibilities a little longer. Even before his hand moved to her jaw, Julianna had been hyper-aware of the possibility that he could kiss her. She was also aware of how much she wanted him to. She advertised this with a coy smile, and a slight tilt of her head. What better way to end a day of bear encounters and river swimming than to kiss a handsome stranger that had taken her on horseback to watch a cliffside sunset?

Julianna couldn’t think of any. And this was better than wedding planning.

Owen was being careful, his mouth hovering just above hers. She couldn’t blame him, but she impatiently tilted her face upwards to close that small distance. Julianna had predicted the kiss would be fun, exciting even, but she hadn’t anticipated the rush of feelings it would bring forth. She felt daring, kissing a man that wasn’t hers, and the strong hand on the back of her neck made her feel desirable. Jean never kissed her like this. Never touched her like he had to have her. Julianna lifted her hand to Owen’s chest as they kissed. Fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt as she pulled away just enough to nip light at his bottom lip.

She’d forgotten all about the sunset.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - saronym - 10-02-2017

Owen was similarly hypnotized by the moment of supreme familiarity with a complete stranger. He couldn’t remember whether he had ever been told her last name and yet there he was with his mouth on hers. The rest of the air had faded into the background with her intoxicating scent all around him. He breathed her in while his lips captured hers with something like avarice. All of a sudden the kiss had escalated from something experimental to something much heavier.

He was being selfish. He was being stupid. He was breaking an unwritten unofficial man code, kissing another man’s woman like that. Even so, the hand tightened at the back of her neck before he lifted it into her hair, burying his fingers in dark curls and his tongue swept inside her mouth to better taste her.

That nipping at his lip produced a tremulous exhale. She had pulled their mouths apart for the moment and he rested his forehead against hers and opened his eyes.

“Julianna.” Though his voice was breathy there was something playful in the way he said it. “You’re missing the sunset.” He taunted as their mouths hung painfully close together. The same way he had taunted her about being lost.

This observation came as a kind of challenge or a request for further confirmation. To have more of him would come at the price of ‘missing’ something else. The sunset, perhaps, wasn’t all he meant.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - megs - 10-19-2017

There was pause. In the moment, in reality, when Owen touched his forehead to hers. Green eyes scanned his face as he spoke, and Julianna tried to keep her breathing even as her heart pounded in her chest. The hand on the back of her neck still held her close; that tempting mouth of his still within reach.

It was the way he said her name, slightly out of breath from kissing. His tone low and heady. He was teasing her, but she didn’t care and she was absolutely positive that she could feel the movement of his lips forming words even though they weren’t touching.

“There will be other sunsets,” she replied, tilting her head and leaning in as if to kiss him again. She knew he was asking without having to ask. Knew all the ‘rules’ they were breaking carrying on like they were. Flirting, and hiding, and making out like horny teenagers. But she knew herself well enough to know that she wouldn’t stop at kissing him; that this moment could go farther, and perhaps, too far if she allowed it. If that were even possible.

Julianna brushed her lips against Owen’s, before dropping her head to his chest and settling against him the way she had before; she turned her face to the setting sun. “But I suppose I don’t want to miss my first Montana sunset,” she concluded, hoping that he understood that she wasn’t completely dismissing him or what was clearly brewing between them; just slowing it down.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - saronym - 11-22-2017

Owen could hear the near frantic rhythm of her heart. He reveled in the pride that that reaction was because of him. It wasn't unlike the feeling he'd had approaching her earlier as the grizzly. He sort of regretted letting her pull away from him. Kissing and touching had lit his whole body on fire inside and out. A part of him, the most human part perhaps, was aware of an almost animalistic need to have her.

All of her.

Right now.

But she was cuddled up against his chest and seemed content to watch the sunset. So he forced that needy primal feeling down. He supposed that she had kind of meant he would have other opportunities to have her. That she would give him more if he pursued her. He wasn’t at all discouraged by that.

“What other Montana firsts shouldn’t you miss?” He wondered aloud to himself. “Mechanical bull riding at Mac’s for sure. What does a rancher have to do to see a fancy New York gal on a mechanical bull?” He chuckled at the prospect. "My mother would never approve. I'd have to sneak you out of the house."

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - megs - 12-28-2017

Julianna pulled her head away from his chest, to look up at him. She was visibly surprised, having been caught off guard by something he had said. “Mechanical bull riding,” she repeated. Already her tone rang with disbelief and disagreement. “There’s no way.” She was laughing now. A delicate chuckle that shook her shoulders. It was getting harder to see him as the sun continued to set, but she kept her eyes level with cool gray ones.

“I haven’t snuck out of anywhere since I was a teenager.” It wasn’t a no, and she was already grinning at the thought. “Maeve would absolutely kill me if she found out.” Julianna paused and rolled her eyes upwards. “She’d kill me, now. Not that I could really blame her. I ditched her earlier to wander in the woods.” She settled her head on Owen’s shoulder, again. Clearly indicating she wasn’t going to give much thought into what her blonde friend would think.

“C’mon,” she nudged against him. “There has to be something other than bull riding around her.”

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - saronym - 01-04-2018

Owen made a pleased hum in the back of his throat when she mentioned the trouble she would be in with her wedding planner friend. He rather liked the thought. If Julianna would be in trouble for sneaking around with him, well, that meant he was a viable threat.

He smirked down at her eyeing her where she laid her head against his shoulder again. “Well the local sports - in no particular order - are bull riding, drinking, karaoke, and finding lost tourists in the woods.” He ticked each one off on his fingers as he recited the list.

“You’ve already been lost and then found. So that leaves the other three. Oh - and I suppose some would argue that fucking in barns is a local sport but that’s debatable depending who you ask.” He smirked again at her.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - megs - 01-05-2018

“I wasn’t lost,” she insisted. The words punctuated with laughter. The sun was gone and she could no longer see him in the dark. He was warm and solid and she liked the feeling of being tucked against him. She liked it too much. A dangerous amount, she knew. “I like drinking and karaoke,” she mused, but fell silent as his last comment hit her ears. She could sense the smirk she had already become so familiar with.

Suddenly, the weight of what she was doing crashed against her. What was she doing? She lifted her head from his shoulder, sitting up straighter until only their legs were touching and just barely. She was engaged. Engaged and...flirting with and kissing a man she had just met when she should have been planning her wedding. An icy panic coursed through her. She was being reckless, she was being stupid. “I think maybe we should get back,” she said suddenly. Her humorless tone cut through the silence she had initiated. “Maeve called me way earlier and she’s uh...probably super worried about me.” Julianna pushed herself up and dusted herself off without waiting for him.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - saronym - 01-10-2018

Owen knew his commentary was in poor taste when she coiled away from him like a skittish cat. Though he knew he was in the wrong and that she was taken, Owen couldn’t help the feeling that the floor had fallen out from underneath him. It filled him with that kind of urgent dread that he had felt before during a break up. That feeling of losing something.

She wasn’t even his.

“Yeah. It’s getting dark.” He agreed blandly as he stood up. He patted the dirt from his bottom before gently touching the back of her arm to lead her back to where they had left the horse. “Watch your step.”

Instead of just picking her up as he’d done earlier, Owen knelt down and made a step out of his hands for her to use to hoist herself onto the back of the horse. He settled in behind her again and they began the ride back to the ranch house. Owen was mostly quiet for the ride caught up in his thoughts.

“We’ll just tell them you got lost.” He suggested and this time it wasn’t a joke. His voice was quiet and serious. A serious suggestion to cover for what they had been doing during the sunset. It wasn’t that he was trying to punish her for going cold on him. He had just sobered up himself and that acted like a check on his behavior towards her.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - megs - 02-18-2018

She knew the vibe had changed when he offered to help her instead of putting her on the horse himself. Julianna didn’t know how to feel about what had happened. What was currently happening. She had never felt such a strong and instant connection to someone before. And though she tried to brush it off as lust; an attraction to a hot guy that had been nice to her, she also couldn’t shake the feeling of something more.

“Yeah.” Julianna agreed lamely to her having been lost as they rode through the fields and back towards the main house. Riding back with him wasn’t as fun as it had been. He didn’t put his hands on her and she didn’t lean against him. They didn’t talk. It was the cold awkwardness of disappointment. They were both disappointed. Her camera was a heavy weight against her neck and her chest, bumping against her in time with the movements of the horse.

They stopped at the barn first. Julianna waited while Owen settled his horse into the stables for the night. She didn’t know why she did that, and she probably shouldn’t have. He mostly ignored her, and it would have been wildly better for her to show back up alone. Julianna had a nagging feeling that he might not talk to her again after tonight, so, she waited.

It was possible that someone had seen them come into the barn, because they didn’t get a chance to speak, even if they had wanted too. Maeve came rounding the corner and through the propped open door. “Where have you been?” The blonde all but shrieked at Julianna, not at all bothered about causing a scene in front of Owen. She was frowning so hard her lips were a thin downward curve on the bottom half of her face. “I have been calling you for hours,” she continued to complain. Maeve was red-faced and throwing her hands all around. “You just ran off into the woods and I thought something had happened to you.”
Maeve paused, glancing at Owen for the first time. She looked him up and down before a judgemental and suspicious violet gaze returned to her friend. “Where have you been?” She asked again.

Julianna was quiet in the wake of Maeve’s anger. She frowned back at the blonde and fiddled with her camera. “I got lost,” she admitted, easily. It wasn’t as if it were a lie. “Owen found me and brought me back. I didn’t have any cell service in the fucking woods.”

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - saronym - 02-18-2018

Owen was more than aware of the awkward tension that had fallen between them. It kept his hands positioned everywhere but on her. It kept him from saying anything into her ear or joking around anymore. She was engaged. She was taken. It was stupid and wildly disrespectful to have flirted with her and kissed her.

He didn’t know why she lingered in the barn waiting for him. At that point, he’d almost gotten over the awkwardness and considered reminding her about his offer to take her out to a bar. Inadvisable as that was. But he didn’t make the offer. The party planner’s scent came to him. She was coming in hot. Sure enough when the blonde arrived she started making a scene.

Owen’s boots scraped on the barn floor as he moved to join the two women. Julianna was in obvious defense mode. Owen took his time dusting his hands on his pants.

“You’re welcome.” He said gently to them both and then he started to turn and leave the barn as if to get out of the line of questioning. “Ladies.” He nodded to them to excuse himself.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - megs - 03-25-2018

Maeve let Owen leave without any unsavory remarks, but her position in the barn meant that Julianna could only watch his back as he retreated out of the building. She felt like they should talk about what happened. She was doubtful that their cliff-side kiss would just fall into a distant, and almost forgotten memory if they still had to see each other around the ranch in the coming weeks.

But Maeve was lecturing her, going on and on about her responsibilities and how worried she had been. Julianna did her best to apologize and appear reverent, but she was mostly tired and quickly became annoyed with being lectured like a child.

After Maeve wore herself out, the two women went into town to find something for dinner, returning to the ranch just before ten. Maeve went to bed shortly after citing jet-lag, she joking made Julianna promise not to run off into the woods again, to which she just replied, “sure.”

Julianna was still buzzing with excitement from the day’s events and was almost renewed by the woodsy quiet and fresh Montana air. She was surprised that she didn’t really see any of the Harts around. She figured there had to be a few more besides Owen and Ishara keeping the ranch running in such impressive condition. Maybe they were just really good at avoiding the guests. She couldn't blame them, probably bad enough to have a revolving door of strangers sharing your home with you.

She sat on the porch, rocking gently in the swing. She had found a blanket to drape over her lap as she tried to answer emails on her phone. A scattered cell service and lack of true interest made the task difficult.

RE: Remote Capture [Closed] - saronym - 04-02-2018

Indeed when the Hart family hosted guests at the ranch house they tended to steer clear to afford the guests privacy. Ishara usually posted herself up in the kitchen to be easily found should her guests need anything. Otherwise, she left them to their own devices. Make yourself at home, she always encouraged them.

Despite her usual policy, Ishara went in search of her guest who had caused quite a fuss with her disappearance that afternoon. She had seen Maeve come back with Julianna from the direction of the barn. She had planned to intercept them and lay on the questions, but then the ladies had immediately left again.

Ishara was going about closing the blinds and curtains for the evening when she noticed Julianna cuddled up on the porch swing. She abandoned her task and promptly joined her guest on the porch.

“Hey there.” She sang as she opened the door and slid out.

Ishara crossed the porch and joined Julianna on the swing. She threw her arm around the woman’s shoulders and pulled her against her side. “You gave us a scare disappearing this afternoon young lady.” She scolded playfully. “I was so relieved when I saw you come up from the yard earlier. Where did you get off to anyway?”
