So I'm fiddling around with making a vampire in D&D, because I saw Dracula Untold (awesome, btw), and was inspired.
And being the dickish DM that I am, I seek out a base race with a swim speed, because a race with a swim speed becomes a vampire without the usual weakness to running water.
I settle on a nymph, because that has Charisma-based abilities just like a vampire.
Now, nymphs have damage reduction 10/cold iron. Vampires have damage reduction 10/silver. Alchemical silver cannot be applied to cold iron weapons.
There is no physical weapon in existence that can overcome the damage reduction of my nymph vampire.
